Great Blue Heron

This portrait of a great blue heron in breeding plumage was taken near Flamingo in Everglade National Park, Florida. The heron is in contrast with and is separated out from the surrounding green vegetation. A stalk of out-of-focus of purple flowers, above and behind the beak, repeats the basic color of the slightly S shaped curve of the neck of the bird.
