| This portrait of a least bittern was taken near Flamingo, Everglades
National Park, Florida. With the head and beak pointing up to the left,
the image contrasts the camouflaged, secretive, small heron with its
background of reeds. Taken with a very long telephoto lens and extender,
the bird was "extracted" out from its background. The bittern in
a characteristic pose is standing on one leg by grasping a reed; the other
leg is raised against the body. |
