Pinnacle, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
| This image was taken, on a cloudy day in the middle of the afternoon, in
the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.
The Pinnacle was illuminated when a shaft of sunlight passed through an
opening in a cloud. The image contrasts the yellow glow of the Pinnacle
and the far side of the canyon wall, which is in shadow. The color of this
rock is the reason that the National Park is called Yellowstone. |
